I had such high hopes for this weekend. After being so productive last week (Christmas is up- including icicle lights, I finished up both my major projects for this semester- I'm free until January sometime..., My house is clean- upstairs and all) I planned to continue the productive streak Sat. and we had planned to get the hardwood floors installed in the cabin. Well we spent all day (literally 9-5, except for a unplanned trip to Lowes to purchase another hammering block- we broke ours) We only got about 1 1/2 boxes installed, and it looked like CRAP! We got this particular flooring from Lowes on one of their Black Friday specials- it was only 77 cents a square foot- now we know why. The locking parts were literally cardboard- they would bend and flake, the wood would chip. The seams wouldn't close. Obviously you get what you pay for... Nowhere near the quality of the Pergo floors E. installed in the kitchen this year. We finally decided to cut our losses and packed up the rest of the boxes and took them back to Lowes. We researched other flooring options - more expensive wood, even linoleum, and some crazy sticker boards. We were tired and frustrated and decided not to spend the extra money until after Christmas. So now we are stuck with crappy plywood floors. BUMMER! We tore out all the carpet in the living room and about half the linoleum in the kitchen. It looks horrible, but I'm trying to ignore it... We considered having carpet installed, but I really wanted something super easy to clean... Too much dirt, leaves, and mud (thanks to Chris's frequent fishing trips to the lake! He can't seem to grasp the concept of removing his shoes outside) I think it would just end up being a huge mess... I felt like spending some money (to make myself feel better ya know!) Looked at the glass globes- The sconces in here drive me crazy- I hate them! I've already bought the spray paint (pewter) to cover the horrible super shiny bright gold. It's just been too cold to spray paint, and E's been busy anyway. He's going to have to remove them all- disconnect the electricty and all... There is 6 of them... I didn't want lampshades- thought the glass globes would look better. Found some that I liked, bought 2 just to try them- thankfully they work out well and I am happy with them. Looked at the Christmas lights- we need some outdoor lighting here, and Christmas lights are pretty much the camping standard. Elton and I couldn't agree on anything (we were tired, irritated and pretty snippy by this time). So we went to the grocery store- definatly a must with 2 teenage boys ( we brought Cheddar with us to keep Chris entertained). We came home cooked some frozen pizzas, and went to the pool. Realized when we got there that we only had 30 minutes until the pool closed. The girls swam in the pool, Shawn hung out in his stroller, and Elton and I sat in the hot tub. It was great- so nice and relaxing- was ready to just curl up in a chair and go to sleep. We brought our clothes to change into b/c it was so cold. Elton went to change, and the girls went to put on their pajamas, while I sat with Shawn. When Elton came out I left him with Shawn and the stroller, assuming that he would stay where I had left him. I inadvertently left my shoes with him, a fact that I seriously regretted on the walk to the van! It was about a 50 degree temperature drop from the indoor pool area- not factoring in the hot tub! The boys (who are too cool to hang out at the pool with us) were in the arcade with 2 girls they had hooked up with this weekend. Apparently Cheddar is not head over heels in love with lip-ring girl (Ashley???) , he's been running around with Sierra (Our "neighbor" Bobbi's granddaughter, and Chris was with Jennifer (LOL) Sierra's friend.) They stayed at the arcade until it closed at 11, and came home to ask if it was o.k. for them to go to Bobbi's cabin and play cards. They stayed there until about 12:30. It was really funny to see the whole progression- Sat morning, those girls must have walked by our house a dozen times, and the boys were obsessively walking Rocky- always past Bobbi's cabin! Today was a lazy day- I cooked breakfast, cleaned up the cabin, and took a shower. Well about 20 seconds into the shower the water went ice cold! I had washed dishes, given Shawn and Brianna a bath and had no problem with the water, I had given the hot water plenty of time to build back up- I like my showers hot and L-O-N-G. I decided just to suck it up and finish my shower b/c the idea of getting out, getting dressed- wet and soapy- and go over to Dad and Janet's cabin to finish my shower just sounded like too much work. It was miserable. We decided at 2 oclock it would be the perfect time for a quick nap- Shawn was asleep, the boys were out running around and the girls were watching a movie. E. and I decided to take advantage of the peace and quiet and take a quick nap. Well 3 HOURS later we woke up and had to run around like crazy people. The whole point of coming to Williamsburg this weekend was to go to the Grand Illumination at Colonial Williamsburg. We've wanted to go for years, and have just never made it... I threw some chicken nuggets in the oven and corn on the cob on the stove, and we all got our coats, (hats, scarves, and gloves for the girls, Shawn and I). We all jumped in the van (I threw the chicken nuggets in one big bowl and the corn on the cob in another- you know you're a redneck when you eat "family style" on the road! ;0) ) I couldn't find my shoes and remember that they were in the stroller. Sent Chris out to get my shoes- of course he could only find 1! So we drove up to see if it was in the parking lot- of course it wasn't! In an attempt to pack lighter- I had only brought one pair of shoes! Thankfully it had been turned in at the lost and found. Colonial Williamsburg was insanely packed, people were EVERYWHERE. We would have had to have parked 2 miles away! We decided just to forget about it... After the way this weekend had gone- I really wasn't surprised. We tried to salvage the evening and went to the outlets- The Children's Place was kind of a bummer- bought Shawn one shirt- It's a polo shirt with red, black, white, and gray stripes- it looks like 2 shirts, it looks like there is a white thermal shirt under it. It was $5- a good deal for the shirt- but certainly not a Children's Place deal... We went to The Christmas Mouse and then got Frosty's at Wendys. Hopefully this is the end of my "bad luck streak" especially since we have to drive home tomorrow...
